The Secret to Great Looking Foundation

Foundation gives a great finish to look of a woman’s skin and a polish to her overall image.  It also helps keep makeup looking fresh throughout the day.

The tools you use to create a beautiful makeup are as important as your products, and finding the right makeup applicator is key to your success.

While you can use your finger or a sponge my vote is for the

Mac – #187 Duo Fibre Stippling Brush.

This brush makes the application of liquid foundation effortless and easy and gives a flawless finish.  In addition you can use this brush for applying your powder and your blush, so really it is three brushes for the price of one!

My dear friend, the hot, devastatingly gorgeous Gregory Arlt, Director of makeup artistry at Mac had this to say:

I basically consider the #187 brush a cordless airbrush. It can give powder products like blush a soft, luminous appearance, or a perfectly blended application of foundation.

You’ll notice it’s a two toned brush. The dark bristles are natural hair which will hold powder beautifully, and the white bristles are synthetic which is great for cream or liquid products. The top area of the MAC 187 brush is completely flat. This allows for excellent distribution of powder or cream/liquid foundation across the skin. The synthetic bristles are spaced apart so that it allows for you to take an intensely pigmented blush or foundation and apply it in a much lighter, more controlled way than if you used a regular heavily bristled brush.

BLUSH

Lightly sweep the top of the brush across the blush cake, making sure to load up enough product to apply, but not so much that you will have a “Baby Jane” appearance with two bright circles on the apples of your cheeks.

Lightly swirl in circular motions around the cheeks, across nose, forehead and chin. Basically the areas where the sun would naturally hit your face.

This will give you a light truly natural glow and not red/pink/coral splotches on your face.

CREAM/LIQUID FOUNDATION

Put a dab of foundation on the back of your hand or on a flat surface.

Swirl the brush lightly around to make sure to get your bristles evenly coated with product.

Swirl around the face as much as you can to distribute the foundation evenly around face and neck.

Blend with the brush- you may have to reload the brush once, depending on coverage you want.”

I hope that helps, my dear….and hope to see you SOON.

XO!

Gregory

Thank you Gregory

Other things to consider:

Now you have the correct brush you might want to consider the other elements for great  looking foundation.

Color:   Try different colors on your jaw line.  The correct color will be the one that disappears on your skin as you blend it in.

Coverage:  Different foundations offer different types of coverage.  You can use a light coverage for a more youthful and dewy look or a more dense formula to cover facial flaws.

Shopping:

Before you buy your product make sure to tell the salesperson what your goal is and only make the purchase when you are comfortable.  So many times I have walked out of the store with the wrong product for my needs.
